Medicom is a proudly Canadian company that has grown from humble beginnings in Montreal more than three decades ago to be a leading global manufacturer of surgical and respiratory masks and infection control products. This year, Medicom will supply approximately 2.5 billion medical grade masks to customers around the world, coming from facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America. It is one of the leading providers of medical masks to the Canadian, British and French governments.

At the start of the pandemic, Canada was facing a public health crisis and needed to secure reliable, domestic supply to meet exponential demand for PPE. Medicom is proud to be working with the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec to meet their requirements for surgical and respirator masks, and we stand ready to work with other jurisdictions needing reliable, safe, and secure, supplies of these products.

Medicom entered into a long-term agreement with the Government of Canada with the commitment to quickly open a domestic manufacturing facility to ensure sovereign control of PPE. Our 60,000 sq. ft facility in St. Laurent, Quebec is now open and commenced production in July. This new production facility became operational a mere 65 days since the agreement with the Government of Canada was concluded. The facility has an annual manufacturing capacity in excess of 150 million surgical and respiratory masks, has already produced over 1 million masks, and initial deliveries are underway.

Medicom is proud to have hired over 100 new employees on a full-time basis to help rapidly launch and operate this new facility, as well as add capacity at its 180,000 sq.ft global headquarters in Pointe Claire, Quebec to supply the world with essential protective equipment during Covid-19.

We wish to emphasize that Medicom’s 32-year history in infection control product manufacturing allowed us to pivot quickly in these emergency circumstances to establish reliable local production. Unfortunately, the challenge of sub-standard product provided by less experienced foreign manufacturers remains a serious challenge globally.

The ongoing pandemic represents a challenging and difficult time for all of us, and Medicom is committed to helping our health care workers and all Canadians stay safe and healthy.
