Infection control is a continuously evolving science. As new infections and viruses arise, new infection control practices and tools must be developed to help control and prevent their transmission. How can you stay up to date with the latest, most reliable information to ensure that your environment is safe for you and your patients?

The pandemic has shed some light on the different infection control solutions available, yet many healthcare professionals remain unsure as to which infection control methods and devices should be used in which situations and exactly how they should use them for maximum effectiveness. That’s why Medicom leveraged its three decades of infection control expertise to create a free digital education platform, Medicom University.

Recently launched for dental professionals across North America, our team is eager to share its expertise about infection control best practices. So, one might wonder: will this new platform really help you navigate health and safety guidelines for your clinic? The answer is yes.

Medicom University: What’s in it for you?

Though CE courses have been around for a while, our team realized that the demand for continuing education surrounding infection control has very much increased since the pandemic.

The idea to build Medicom University as a digital platform came from our customers. Many of them noticed a knowledge gap between the new health and safety guidelines created in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and how they could be applied to daily reality within their dental clinics.

“Infection control has become increasingly important over the past two years, not only to protect healthcare professionals from microbes and viruses, but also to enhance the experience of patients who now closely observe and analyze infection control practices when they visit a clinic”, explained Talia, head of the Medicom Education and Training team.

Indeed, patients are now better informed of best practices than ever. Although patient satisfaction is still influenced by the quality of technical aspects of care (diagnosis and treatment), overall consumer trends are now seeing that businesses that are putting safety first generate higher customer loyalty.

How will our platform help you earn this kind of loyalty from your patients? Medicom University courses are designed to empower you and your team to implement reliable infection control processes and safely and effectively use the right products in the right way. The confidence and peace of mind that comes from knowing that you are doing everything right to keep your team and your patients healthy will be felt by your patients.

Best in Class Infection Control Content

The recently launched Medicom University website currently covers infection control basics. However, we will be gradually introducing new content that will reflect our customer’s questions and evolving health and safety guidelines.

As customer centricity is a key value at Medicom, it is important that the recommendations in our trainings are as feasible as they are relevant to your day-to-day tasks and comply with the regulations.

We want our customers to become their own trusted source, to be more conscious about the products they’re using and understand how they work. When it comes to teaching, I’m hoping that dental professionals gain information they didn’t have before so that they are constantly learning what solution will work best in their clinic,” says Liza Cruz, Medicom University speaker and Medicom Territory Manager.

Our new hand hygiene course is the perfect example. While it is common knowledge that hand hygiene is a simple yet effective way to prevent the spread of infections, many of our customers were unclear on the different steps as well as when to use soap and water versus. antiseptic hand wash. Also, during a single appointment, there are usually multiple opportunities to perform hand hygiene. The content of this course will clarify the correct way to perform hand hygiene, when handwashing should be performed, and which method should be used in various scenarios. It will also cover glove selection and proper fitting.

Sharing knowledge: It’s in our DNA

Although Medicom is a distributor and manufacturer of infection control products, education has always been a priority for the company. In recent years, our in-house trainers and account managers have been offering courses and CE marathons to hundreds of customers. With this new online platform, the Medicom team is excited to be able to share its expertise with an even wider audience.

Because we have more than 30 years of experience fighting viruses such as HIV, Avian Flu, SARS, Ebola, H1N1 and now COVID-19, we feel that sharing our knowledge is not only valuable for our customers and good for business, but ultimately, we are helping to make the world a safer and healthier place.

Medicom is a nationally approved Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) provider through the Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE), which promotes constant improvements in continuing education and makes finding dental CE easy.
