At times like this, it is important to know that infection control companies like Medicom offer a variety of infection control products. When it comes to face masks, it is not only important to choose the right mask from a reliable company; it is also important to use the mask correctly.

Medicom recommends that users follow these important guidelines for wearing a protective face mask:

Know your mask

Did you know that different masks offer different levels of protection? In fact, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) classifies protective face masks as level 1, level 2 and level 3, according to the level of protection they offer, with level 3 offering the highest level of protection.

Medicom has masks in all three ASTM levels. Please refer to the chart below to better understand which mask is right you.

When being materialistic is not a bad thing

In addition to its ASTM protection level, the reliability of a mask depends on the quality of the materials used and how they are put together. Here is a quick overview of how Medicom face masks are made:

How to wear a mask properly

Below you will find step-by-step instructions for how to wear a mask correctly:

Step 1

With clean hands, hold the mask by the earloop fasteners on the outside of the mask. Ensure the mask is worn with the colour side facing outward and the folds facing downward.

Step 2

Secure and mold the nose piece comfortably over the bridge of your nose. Pull mask down, fanning it out over your mouth and securing it under your chin, ensuring full coverage of the mouth, chin and nose.

Step 3

Pull earloops tightly around each ear, without twisting the loops. Confirm that mask is secured around the circumference of your face and that it fits snugly for customized protection.

Remember, the key to optimal protection is choosing the right mask and wearing it correctly. It is also essential that you change your mask as soon as it becomes wet or soiled, as well as between patients. Masks are intended for one-time use only and a new mask should be used for every new patient.
