Will the duckbill respirator make contact with a face shield?
It should not but may make contact with the face shield.
Will that make the respirator less effective?
The recommendation for those who choose to wear a face shield with a respirator is to:
1- Put on the respirator
2- Put on the face shield
3- THEN perform the seal test
The most important thing is to check that there are no leaks after putting on the face shield.
Should you wear a surgical mask on top of a respirator?
We do not recommend wearing a second mask on top of your respirator, as respirators were not designed to be worn that way.
Important: The duckbill respirator is already an ASTM Level 2 surgical respirator. If you are going to wear a second respirator or mask, be sure to conduct the user seal test AFTER donning both masks.
Is it better to wear a Level 3 surgical mask than a Level 2 respirator?
This depends on what kind of protection is needed. The difference between ASTM Level 2 and 3 is that Level 3 is tested for a higher-pressure fluid spray.
Therefore, a dentist who is more concerned with aerosols than high-pressure fluid spray would be better protected with a respirator that forms a good seal to the face.
Is it better to wear a NIOSH-certified respirator?
NIOSH only requires certified masks to comply with ASTM Level 1 testing. The 95PFE-L2 is an ASTM Level 2 surgical respirator.
