Conducted by Groupe AGÉCO on a Medicom procedure mask and a N95 respirator, the study underwent a critical review by an independent committee of experts and was found to be compliant with the ISO 14044 standard in May of 2023.

The study focused on the use of these Medicom products in institutional settings in Quebec and using representative production activities from 2021.

SAFEMASK ARCHITECT™ DISPOSABLE PROCEDURE MASK
(ASTM level 3)

First Medicom mask to undergo a life cycle assessment

  • Compliant with ISO 14044 standard

Manufactured in Quebec

  • Raw materials from Mexico, the United States, China and France

Potential environmental impacts reduced by 15% to 17%

  • Compared to its counterpart made in China
  • In terms of carbon footprint, human health, and ecosystem quality

311 metric tons of CO2 avoided in 2021

  • Compared to its counterpart made in China
  • Like removing about 70 gasoline-powered cars from the road for an entire year

72% to 94% of these emission from the production of raw materials

  • This stage is the most significant contributor to impacts

SAFEMASK ARCHITECT PRO™ DISPOSABLE N95 RESPIRATOR
(Medical Device Class 1)

First Medicom N95 respirator to undergo a life cycle assessment

  • Compliant with ISO 14044 standard

Manufactured in Quebec

  • Raw materials from Germany and France

Potential environmental impacts reduced by 11% to 47%

  • Compared to its counterpart made in China
  • In terms of carbon footprint, human health, and ecosystem quality

273 metric tons of CO2 avoided in 2021

  • Compared to its counterpart made in China
  • Like removing about 60 gasoline-powered cars from the road for an entire year

32% to 96% of these emissions from the production of raw materials

  • This stage is the most significant contributor to impacts

MADE IN QUEBEC

Lower potential impacts than their counterparts made in China.

Filters made of polypropylene produced in Quebec would allow for an additional reduction of 3 to 9% in the potential impact of Medicom’s procedure masks.

Quebec is the region that could produce polypropylene melt blown (MBPP) and polypropylene spunbound (SBPP) with the lowest impact, among the evaluated supply regions.
